Early 20th C. Polynesian Wood Food Pounder

Oceania, Polynesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine hand-carved wood pounder presenting a conical body with a flat handle and planar, circular pounding head. The area between handle and head is adorned with a series of incised bands. An annular drill hole is featured on the side of the head for it to be suspended when not in use. Note the silky-smooth top of the pounding head, worn down from decades of use. Size: 2.25" W x 14.5" H (5.7 cm x 36.8 cm)
