Provenance
Private Washington, D.C. collection of Thomas F. Carroll, acquired from the New York dealer Osmane. Carroll worked in international development organisations from the 1950s through the 1980s and lived in Rome, Chile and Washington, collecting in the countries where he worked. He donated some 400 Pre-Columbian artefacts to the Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, whose 2008 exhibition catalogue included both the donation and pieces lent by him.
