A hand-coloured albumen silver photograph of a geisha with a gekkin, taken in 1880 by Kusakabe Kimbei (Japanese, 1841–1934). Kusakabe was among the leading Japanese photographers of his generation and operated a studio in Yokohama from the early 1880s until 1913. The photograph is framed.
